Marion, Ill. -

Monday's continued meeting of the Marion City Council saw several citizen's complaints heard by the council.
David Shaw brought photos to illustrate his complaint of flooding in front of his home at the corner of Gregory and Fair.
"It doesn't take much rain to create a flood," Shaw told the council. "Even with a light rain, the water is up over the road and into my driveway."
The council agreed to have street superintendent John Bradley look into the situation to see what could be done to relieve the flooding.
Problems with bills from the sewer department that are elevated because of water usage for watering lawns and filling pools.
"The water usage would remain the same, but the water is not going through the sewer lines," Mayor Butler said. "We will look into what can be done in cases such as these."
No specific action was taken and the matter was tabled until next meeting.
Mayor Butler brought up the matter of signs being hung on light poles on the Tower Square.
"We are seeing some damage to the poles from wind catching the signs and putting pressure on the poles," Butler said. "I would like to see the city stop the placing of signs."
The thermometer for United Way would not be effected because it is not anchored to a pole. The council will take up the matter at the next meeting.
City Administrator Gail West reported on an initial meeting with CWI officials Gary Pearson and Mike Houldith to discuss the contract for the landfill transfer station.
